LEADERSHIP MATTERS by Darrell Ingram
As we transition from June to July, church camps and VBS programs are in full swing across the TEBA. During the first week of June, many churches were reporting lower than normal numbers of children attending VBS; however, that trend quickly evaporated as many churches are now reporting record numbers of attendees.
I have been so encouraged to visit many of your churches and see firsthand the energy, commitment levels, leadership, and volunteer corp across this association. One of the striking things each year is the sheer amount of creativity that exists in our TEBA churches. While many churches have utilized Lifeway’s Magnify theme this year, I’ve also seen churches that have birthed their own themes, written new curriculum, and invested in designing unique decorations, creating a visual treat. It is a remarkable thing to see the giftings of God in his people being utilized for his purposes.
Something else that has been noticeable is the uptick in visible church security teams and their commitment to keep your children and volunteers safe. They are doing a thorough job; I can testify to being stopped at the entrance of multiple TEBA churches and questioned before allowing access to the VBS program. I don’t mind – keep it up!
The gospel is being shared clearly, and many kids are responding to the love and kingship of Jesus Christ. I’ve been in at least two churches where I was able to personally witness children repenting of their sin and coming to faith! One church even reported post-VBS baptisms the Sunday after. There’s simply nothing better…it never gets old!
Church camps are also underway. We have already heard reports of kids coming to faith and churches having a great experience. We are grateful for our partners at Pineywoods Camp, their commitment to the gospel, and the impact this is having on children within TEBA churches.
Something else that is about to begin: Cross TEBA. Starting next week, several churches in our association will be initiating various outreach projects in their respective communities throughout the month of July, fueled by volunteers from within their churches, to get the gospel to those who are perishing through acts of kindness, community service, and a myriad of creative avenues. I look forward to reporting more on that in the next newsletter.
Isn’t God good? Think about how many people in your church who experienced the love of Jesus for the very first time at a camp or a VBS – and the eternal impact this has had on their life. What a privilege it is to be able to witness this dynamic being replicated in another generation! Thank you to all of the volunteers and children’s directors who have made all of this possible. Great is your reward.
Keep pointing ‘em to Jesus!
