LEADERSHIP MATTERS by Roger Yancey, D.Min.

Does AI (Artificial Intelligence) have a place in the ministry of the local church?  Over the past several years, there has been a growing awareness and use of AI in fields including medicine, education, journalism, call centers, and online chatbots. It’s even found its way into the local church.  Churches have used AI for Outreach, Administrative Tasks, Content Creation, Data Analysis, Volunteer Management, and Multilingual Support.  There are reports of some pastors using AI in writing their sermons – not recommended.

It’s easy to discover how AI can be alluring to aid in the creation of content.  In considering this article, I utilized AI to demonstrate how it can be used.  I submitted the following information and asked for a brief report:

What Steps to Take to Implement AI

AI generated the following report:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way organizations work, including non-profits. AI is a type of computer technology that can learn and make decisions like humans. It can understand speech, recognize images, and solve problems.

How AI Helps Plan Projects.  AI can make project planning easier and more effective. It can look at past projects and suggest better ways to do things. AI can also predict possible problems and help teams avoid them. This means projects can be finished faster and with fewer issues.

Boosting Productivity with AI.  AI can help people work smarter and faster. It can do simple tasks automatically, letting workers focus on more important jobs. AI can also find patterns in data that humans might miss, helping make better decisions. This leads to getting more work done in less time.

AI in Non-Profits and Churches.  Many non-profits and churches are already using AI. For example, some use AI to sort through donations and match them to the right programs. Others use AI chatbots to answer common questions, freeing up staff for more complex tasks. AI can also help predict which donors are most likely to give, making fundraising more effective.

Steps to Bring AI into Your Workplace

-Figure out what problems AI could solve in your organization.

-Look at different AI tools and pick the ones that fit your needs.

-Start small with a test project to see how AI works for you.

-Train your team on how to use the AI tools.

-Keep track of how well the AI is working and make changes as needed.

AI is a powerful tool that can help non-profits and other organizations work better. By understanding what AI can do and how to use it, these groups can make a bigger impact in their communities.
