A Year of Ministry

LEADERSHIP MATTERS by Roger A. Yancey, D.Min.

This past ministry year has been impactful in so many ways.  Here are just some of the highlights of what your Association has been focused on in serving our local church families:

Church Planting / Missions

• Providing Church Planter Assessments / Training / Coaching to Potential & Active Church Planters.
• Provided a Church Planter Retreat for the training of present and future Church Planters.
• Partnering with Member Churches in Supporting & Funding 3 New Mission Church Plants to date.
• Partnering with Member Churches in ongoing support of total of 2 ongoing Mission Church Plants.
• Provided a Mobile Church Chapel able to provide a church setup for 100 participants.
• Partnered in Evangelism Projects with Member Churches.
• Underwriting much of the Program Support of the Baptist Student Ministry at Sam Houston State University.
• Participating in Underwriting the Hospitality House – Ministering to the Huntsville Prison Unit Families.
• Facilitated in the Provision of World Hunger Funds to our Member Churches.
• Led Awareness Visits and Leadership Development to assist Member Churches in Partnership Missions.
• Partnership Missions with the Maine Church Planting Group, assisting new church plants and existing churches in responding to the needs of a population that is less than 5% evangelical.

Leadership Development

• Provided ongoing Peer Learning events through Ministry Network Meetings and other training opportunities.
• Provided individualized training of Sr. Pastors and Ministers, including training on personal skill development.
• Provided training cohorts to help ministry leaders.
• Provided Assessment Tools and Individual Consultations to Church Ministry Staffs.
• Provided Ministry Staff Search Help and Assessments to Member Congregations.
• Provided specialized leadership training to individual member church Ministry Staffs.
• Provided and Hosted training for Church Support Staff Members.
• Provided coaching to Pastors and Ministry Team members.
• Provided Retreats for Pastors for skill-building and peer learning.
• Provided scholarships to Pastors and ministers to assist in their ministry training.

Church Strengthening

• Hosted the Seminar for Retiring Ministers as well as Individual Retirement Consultations.
• Hosted the Annual Minister & Church Tax Seminar to assist Churches and Ministers in Tax Code Compliance
• Provided Individual Church Facility Assessments to Assist Churches in Enhanced Space Utilization.
• Made available 3 Mobile Units to be utilized by Member Churches and Missions for Ministry Expansion.
• Provided Church Revitalization training to Member Churches.
• Facilitated church partnerships aiding in Church Revitalization
• Gave Sunday School Training to Member Churches.
• Provided Individualized Church Ministry Development.
• Hosted the Sr. Adult Council.
• Provided a Special Event / Block Party Trailer to our Member Churches and Missions.

Church Health

• Provided the Church Unique and God Dreams process to churches at less than 10% of standard consulting cost.
• Underwrote the Church Health Process for Member Congregations.
• Provided Demographic & Values Analysis for Defined Church Ministry Areas.
• Supplied Individual Consultations to Member Congregations to Assist in Challenging Church Situations.
• Created Church Partnerships with Healthy Member Churches and At-Risk Congregations.
• Partnered Member Churches Together for Mutual Ministry Development and Support.
• Provided Pastor Search Committee Training and Ongoing Support to Member Churches.
• Made available Certified Counselor Services for Member Church Ministers and their Families.
• Provided Consultations with Member Churches utilizing the Church Health Survey.
• Provided Church Ministry and Growth Trend Analysis to Member Churches.
• Aided in Developing Church Ministry Documents (Constitutions, Bylaws, Policy & Procedures, etc.).

While there are many other ways your Association has provided ministry to our member churches over this past year, all of them were based on the commitment that we are a “Church First” and a “Church Driven” Association.
